The Youth & Adults conference is coordinated by Carlene Mattson. Carlene is a parent, educator and NDSC board member. Advocate Andy Bean, also a parent of a son with Down syndrome, and educator Claire Odermann join her this year in facilitating the Youth & Adults Conference.

The Youth & Adults Conference is specially designed to reflect the desires of the self-advocate membership of the NDSC. It is fun, enriching, empowering and safe. Over 50 volunteers will be on hand to lend support.

The Youth & Adults Conference is planned by and for adults and older teenagers with Down syndrome. Those attending will:
  • Gain empowering self-advocacy skills
  • Participate in fun, interactive workshops led by persons with Down syndrome
  • Have an opportunity to participate in a talent show that is enjoyed by ALL Youth & Adults Conference attendees
  • Build new and lasting friendships with their peers from all over the nation as well as other countries

PLEASE NOTE THESE IMPORTANT DETAILS

The NDSC Y&A Conference’s popularity is fueled by the care taken to be inclusive of all persons with Down syndrome and the purposeful effort to allow all individuals with Down syndrome to grow, share and shine.

In order to properly support everyone who attends, the NDSC gathers in-depth information from families.

Once you register for the Y&A Conference, you will be sent an information packet to fill out. The detailed information you send back in this packet allows us to provide the proper support. We need the approximately 200 information packets to be returned quickly so we can process them for our volunteers.

Because of our commitment to self advocates, we cannot accept on site registration nor can we accept late registration.

A few scholarships are available for self advocates who could not attend otherwise. Guidelines are available through the NDSC Center.
For adults and youth with Down syndrome, age 15 (by time of convention) and older Registration deadline: June 25th

Brothers & Sisters Conference
Due to your positive feedback, the NDSC is once again offering two separate workshop tracks so younger siblings (those entering 6th – 8th grades) as well as older teens (9th – 12th grades) will have an opportunity to participate in an amazing conference designed just for the unique needs of brothers and sisters of individuals with Down syndrome.

The Brothers & Sisters Conference is the place to be! It is a funfilled weekend where attendees can share and foster friendships with their peers. It is a place to be informed and inspired by self advocate speakers, a place to participate in creative and growth producing activities, a place to be enlightened and encouraged, a place that allows participants to ask tough questions in a safe and supportive environment.
Participants will not only have fun and feel connected, they will also learn about Down syndrome and disability-related issues, including how to be an advocate for their sibling.

The convention weekend includes social gatherings and culminates in an exciting off-site trip!
